Session 2

The second session is devoted to the use of the repertory grid technique. This isn't covered much in the text books so you might find it useful to look on the internet in order to follow up our session.

The inter-session tasks to be done before session 3 are:

  1. Reflect on what you did in the session. Make some notes. Think about the repertory grid technique in the context of our discussion in session 1. What kind of uses might a business find for the technique? What advantages might it offer? Are there any weaknesses? What could YOU personally do in order to make YOUR use of the technique more effective?
  2. Think about the kinds of issues you could use the repertory grid technique for that would be suitable for you to address in your research for the BAM201 assessment.
  3. Think about how you could improve your interviewing technique to try obtain some data using the repertory grid method that might surprise you.
  4. Do some reading about research interviews, eg chapter 15 of Bryman & Bell (2003), Gillham (2000) The Research Interview, or relevant parts of Collis & Hussey (2003).
  5. Think about possible topics to use in doing some practice in-depth interviewing.

The article by Hankinson referred to in the session is available on the student network (the H drive) - look for a folder called Coursework and then a folder called Chris Downs.
