Session 1

Inter-session tasks to be completed before session 2.

  1. Read the module handbook.
  2. Read the article by Albert Carr given out in the session. (If you want a pdf file of the article please email Chris.)
  3. Visit the library and peruse some of the books on the reading list.
  4. Reflect on our first meeting and think about issues that interest you that we might spend some time on in the module. It might be helpful to explore some of the websites on the links page. You may post suggestions and thoughts in the Portia My Courses area for BAM321.
  5. Begin your 'log' by noting things that you come across duing the week that seem to have some ethical dimension so that you can come to the next session with at least one issue that we could discuss. (See handbook for assessment details on this task.)

Thanks to Aaron for the two pictures below that show the ideas we wrote on the whiteboard during the session. Aaron also sent me a quotation from Charlotte Bronte: "Conventionality is not morality". As Aaron pointed out, this seems to have relevance to the concept of a norm which came up in our discussion.
