Session 3/4

This session is focused on interviewing for research.

The directed tasks to be done before the session on focus groups are:

  1. Read chapters 5 and 15 of Bryman & Bell (2003), and/or chapter 6 of Collis & Hussey (2003) esp the pages on interviewing, and/or Gillham (2000) The Research Interview.
  2. Complete the exercise on research design we worked on in the session. Rework as you see fit the objectives and investigative questions you came up with in the session before producing complete interview schedules.
  3. Practise your interviewing skills in groups of three (using your own interview schedules).
  4. Reflect on your experience of devising an interview schedule, of conducting and observing an interview, and of being interviewed.
  5. Do some reading on focus groups, eg Litosseliti (2003).
  6. And do some thinking about the kinds of issues you could address using interviews for the BAM201 assessment.
